Lit. Analy. #1

1.) A- The nonfiction book that I chose to read as my second book is named Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. The summary of this book is Stargirl was homeschooled for a long time and for most of her school life and she then decided it was time to leave homeschooling and to enroll in the tenth grade of a public high school in Arizona. She was a very outgoing young lady who loved to cheer her teams on. She then joined the cheer team but during basketball season the fans began to dislike her and her boyfriend Leo. There was a girl named Hillari who really did not care for Stargirl at all. Later on after the dance, Stargirl never returned again to the school. She and her family left the state and her spirit did remain, however, in way like the small group of basketball fans who years lady at school basketball games always cheered the first basket scored by the opposing team. 

B.) All in all, the way I would narrow this story down to one statement is never left anyone tell or try to show you who you should be; always be yourself and know the importance of that. 

2.) I have a feeling the author chose to write about this book because she may have been involved in a situation like the one she described in this book or she had it happen to her.

3.) I chose this book because I am always very interested books like this. 

4.) Yes, I really found this book realistic because I have seen this happen in real life. This is a situation that happens all the time. 

PEOPLE:

1.) I feel that she is very into the whole bully proof theory and to make sure less and less young adults get bullied. She just seems like she is really against this subject like it has maybe happened to her before or someone in a similar situation she has known. 

2.) Stargirl- Her real name is Susan Julia Caraway and was a tenth grade girl with blonde hair and freckles. She was a very mysterious young lady.

Kevin Quinlan- He was a student at the high school and he was a good from of Stargirl's boyfriend Leo. 

Leo Borlock- He is the narrator of the story and was also a student there at Mica High School along with Stargirl and Kevin. He was very interested in Stargirl and was always trying to understand her in anyway possible.

3.) All of these people play a very big part in this story and they are all major characters.

1.) Direct Characterization- 

“She was not dressed like the rest of the girls.” -Chapter 1

“She had blonde hair and freckles, and wore no makeup.” -Chapter 1

“She wore bright red overall shorts and used makeup to create over-sized freckles and reddened cheeks.” -Chapter 2

Indirect Characterization-

“He feared that if stargirl was a planet, she could not be on Hot Seat.” -Chapter 2

“She sang happy birthday to him while strumming her ukulele.” -Chapter 2

“Stargirl went to the funeral even though she did not know him.” -Chapter 4

2.) No, I don’t feel that the author changes at all while describing the other characters.

3.) I feel that the protagonist is flat only because he says what he says and if someone doesn’t like it he still doesn’t care.

4.) Yes, I really did feel like I met Stargirl because I felt like I have been in her shoes a couple of times and I could most defiantly relate to some of her odd situations.

STYLE

1.) No, the author kept it plain and simple in the nonfiction point of view.

2.) She focuses more on the description because she feels that it is important that people know who and what they are like so that understanding the story because much easier which I see it the same way because I find myself doing the same sometimes.

3.) She will mostly just start describing something or someone because that is the easiest way to set and create a mood.

4.) I really feel like she wasn’t okay in the beginning with the whole bullying subject and who really cares what Stargirl wore and that type of stuff. I feel like she truly believes in being the person you really are and if people don’t want to except it then they don’t deserve to.

5.) I didn’t notice anywhere in the story of the author using resources?

ENDURING MEMORY

I really enjoyed this book a like because of two certain ideas. I really think this book comes to show that just because someone doesn’t like someone your hanging out with, something your wearing, or/and something you are doing; doesn’t mean that you have to stop doing that or stop wearing it or stop hanging out with someone who you really like. This book proves that you do not need to let someone tell you who you are or tell you what to do because no one should ever have to go through that. And on the other hand, just because someone is doing something you may not like, maybe they like it a lot therefore you have no write to make fun of or tell them that they should stop doing it because its not your actions it theirs so let them act for themselves. 

Launch: Agriculture Buisness

1.) I am passionate about many many things but one thing that really catches my eye is Agriculture Business and I am more than excited to learn and further my future with this.

2.) Using the tools from last semester I can put together many different blog post and learn how to combine it all into one so that I can go from there and take the main points.

3.)I really need to start working and put forward all the effort to really have a fine grip in what I want to do and work at it until I know I have reached my goals. From there I will set higher goals for myself and from there on and on it will be that way, just keep pushing my goals further and further.

4.) I have many personal experiences I am able to talk about so I have no problem doing that and interesting people even more.

5.) I will really go out and look for other ways to put this certain topic to work.

6.) I have many different resources I can choose from because I do come from a farming family ( Teixeria Farms) and so therefore I have my family to help me, I have experts like Dr. Preston, and of course friends always put their input in as well which helps hearing it from a person my ages mouth.

Hafta/Wanna

Well all in all, from my point of view I do see a big difference and eye opening experiencing coming my way very soon. Right now, I am seventeen years old and living the amazing senior life. I have everything I really need and I am so happy with the work I have been putting forward. I have really noticed my parents starting to put much more on my shoulders though. I love my parents and I know they are only trying to prepare me for what is to come in the near future and to be honest, I love it. I can't wait to have my own place, graduated and with a major in Agriculture Business. I have been realizing now that my eighteenth birthday is coming around things are becoming much different. I have much more freedom although I am still very under my parents wings which I will always be. My future I see so far is doing my two years of general education at Hancock and then moving onto go to take my last two years of college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where I then plan on majoring in AG. Business and furthering my career through Agriculture. I have been raising around Agriculture my whole life and am following the footsteps of many of my family members which I love. I expect to put all of my dreams and wishes to work and make the best of my life. I have such big dreams and one is to make my family and parents mostly very happy. I know throughout my life there have been struggles but my parents have always been by mysids and never left once and that is the reason I am who I am today. I cannot wait to see what me along with my fellow classmates do with our lives in our near future. Everyone has something different planned and maybe even nothing planned. At sometime in our lives we will all figure out what we want to do and whatever that certain thing is we are going to put our minds to work and do what we do best.

Hacking My Education

Hacking:

• redefining for ourselves 
• taking the reins and making this something more personal and something that we want to do rather than something that someone else wants us to do

This semester we really want to focus on turning this whole course into something that we want to do, throwing out our own ideas that we have and actually putting to work what we know.

There is always help everywhere we look even though sometimes you might not think so, if there is ever any question; Dr. Preston is always one to help. Whenever I have a question I may not be understanding something he always helps me and wants to make sure I know exactly what I am doing. 

The Choice

1.)  It is referred to the girl either wanting to take the poison herself or her parents having to force it down her throat.

2.) Yes it is a real choice because either she takes the poison or she dies.

3.) It is literally poison to keep her living and by putting it the way she did she really drew attention to the into of the article.

4.) She feels that she will never live to be the age of 8 so she needs to play with it now and I do agree with her because if I was in that situation I would want to be allowed to play with a toy that I may not ever see.

5.) I would want to travel and do all sorts of things that I would not be able to do past the age of 30.

6.) I do not understand what is being asked in this question.

7.) It is because some things you may have to fight for. Not everyone is given everything. Some have to work for it and some still may never get it for as long as they work. There are always wants in life but the needs need to be taken care of first.

8.) Just the certain way it is said and the way he puts his thoughts and the real story into words.
